How to NOT GET SICK during the WINTER!

I meant to write this LAST winter, and it kept getting put off. So I am sitting down to do it now before another winter passes us all by. No one likes being sick! Luckily, there are things that we can do to stay healthy and prevent getting sick. Here’s a look at my secrets to staying well during the winter.

First are foremost, there are the “common sense” rules, that if everyone did their best to follow, would cut down on the spread of sickness tremendously. So let’s go basic here for a minute: 1.) Washing your hands should be the first thing you do when you come home from work, school, store, etc. Wash your hands before you eat. Wash your hands before touching babies. Wash your hands after touching shared items in public spaces. Wash, wash, wash, and you will magically see yourself getting sick less. And washing your hands means soap and water, not hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer will never be able to replace good, old fashioned soap and water, and should only be used when there is no other option because there are lots of germs that it doesn’t kill. 2.) Coughing or sneezing inside your shirt or at the very least into your shirt sleeve. (When someone coughs or sneezes, it remains in the air for nearly an hour and spreads over 13 feet.) If you have to go to Walmart and shop for produce while you are hacking your head off, don’t cough into the open air or into your hands and then continue to touch everything. 3.) If you are throwing up, just stay home.

Now let’s get to the fun stuff…

ESSENTIAL OILS

By far my biggest weapons in preventing illnesses are essential oils! Whether it’s ingesting, applying topically, or diffusing…they play a huge role in my health and wellness game! In only 2 minutes they reach the bloodstream and in 20 minutes they will affect every cell in the body! Natural and powerful, I love my oils!

Immunity Roller

Every night before bed I swipe my homemade immunity roller on the bottom of each foot. This immunity roller is made up of 10 essential oils/blends and an organic grapeseed oil. Some of the immune boosting ingredients include Oregano, Cinnamon, and Frankincense. It just takes a swipe up and down on each foot before you hop into the bed. And while you sleep let those oils get to work!

 

COLLOIDAL SILVER

img_0185Colloidal Silver is the best! It’s like an antibiotic, but it doesn’t create resistance or immunity in the organisms it kills (like antibiotics do). It can be used for wound care and fungal infections or eye and ear infections. It’s an antiviral and boosts cell recovery. I most often use it diluted as a nasal spray (using a nasal spray bottle). I do this at bedtime to help prevent sinus infections and colds. I also use the nasal applicator to spray it into my mouth and inhale it to deliver fighting action to any germs that may be inside my lungs. I especially like to spray it in my nose and throat when I know I’m about to go out into a public place where I will be exposed to a lot of sick people. You can find colloidal sliver here.

ASTRAGALUS

img_0188Astragalus has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to boost the body’s immune system for centuries. Astragalus is called an adaptogen, which means it helps protect the body against various stresses–physical, mental, or emotional. Recent research has been conducted that explores the possibility of the herb protecting DNA and increasing longevity by protecting the telomeres from shortening. It has been found to enhance the function of white blood cells, thus supporting the immune system.  It contains antioxidants and protects against cell damage–supporting the immune system and preventing colds and upper respiratory infections.

And, like with anything else, a healthy diet plays a role in a strong immune system. So eat clean and eat nutritious! Food is always the best medicine there is. I drink a superfood shake daily to get all my nutrients and vitamins in. It keeps my digestive system in order and keeps my body strong. It’s also important to drink lots of water. If you don’t like water there are so many yummy herbal teas to help you reach your quota.
